Chukwueze eyes first derby start against Inter

Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze is eager to make his first start for AC Milan when they take on Inter in the first Derby della Madonnina of the season on Saturday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Samuel Chukwueze will be eager to take his outstanding form for the Super Eagles back to his club as they gear up for the tough test against their city rivals in San Siro.

Chukwueze was among the goals as the Eagles wrapped up the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers with a comfortable 6-0 victory against Sao Tome and Principe at Nest of Champions in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state, on Sunday.

AC Milan’s new signing Chukwueze came off the bench to register a goal and an assist as the Eagles ended the qualifying campaign with 15 points, scoring 22 goals, and conceding 4.

Saturday gives Chukwueze a chance to play in his first Milan derby and he is expected to start the game as fellow winger Christian Pulisic featured for USA in an international friendly on Wednesday while the Nigeria international has not played since Sunday.

Chukwueze is yet to register a goal or an assist for Napoli in his three appearances off the bench for the Rossonerri. The 24-year-old will be hopeful that his goal and assist while on international duty will convince Stefano Pioli to hand him a start and he will be eager to repay that faith by scoring or providing an assist to his teammates.

Both Milan and Inter have racked up three wins from three ahead of the first Derby della Madonnina of the season, so something must give when two giants of Calcio collide.

Having won each of their last four meetings against Milan without conceding a single goal to equal their record, Inter are now aiming to record five consecutive Milan derby wins for the very first time.
