The Vice-Chancellor of the Dominican University, Professor Hyginus Ekwuazi, has called on Nigerians to prioritise and practise the act of a healthy lifestyle.
The VC said this while speaking at the just concluded “Walk for a Healthy Nation” in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Sunday.
Ekwuazi said the walk was part of the university’s effort to promote the physical and mental well-being of employees, students and community hosts.
He referred to the walk as proof of its promise to enhance physical exercise and healthy living.
“At Dominican University, we believe in the all-round development of our students and staff. The ‘Walk for a Healthy Nation’ is a testament to our commitment to promoting physical exercise and healthy living, fostering a culture of well-being within our academic community. We are immensely proud of the turnout and the positive impact this event will have on the community,” he said
He disclosed that the institution believes in the development of students and members of staff in all ramifications, adding that the university took proactive steps to promote holistic development, recognising the undeniable benefits of regular physical exercise on overall wellbeing.
The “Walk for a Healthy Nation” initiative, which garnered overwhelming support from students, faculty, private sector organisations, and the general public was driven by the commitment of the university aimed to foster a culture of healthy living among Nigerians and nurture a productive mind, body, and spirit.
Also, a former Chairman of SEPLAT, ABC Orjiako, expressed delight and support for the step taken in prioritising healthy living.
“I am delighted to see the tremendous enthusiasm and participation in the ‘Walk for a Healthy Nation.’ It is inspiring to witness the collective effort towards promoting physical and mental well-being. Initiatives like this play a crucial role in fostering a healthy lifestyle among Nigerians,” he said.
In his words, a committee member of the walk, Chinwe Iloghalu, expressed her appreciation for the overwhelming response from the participants as it successfully brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, united in their pursuit of a healthier lifestyle.
“The “Walk for a Healthy Nation” aligns with Dominican University’s longstanding dedication to the holistic development of the human person. By promoting physical exercise and healthy living, the university aims to contribute to the prevention of sudden deaths among young people and create awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle,” Iloghalu said.
