Palm wine tapper arrested over Ondo octogenarian’s death

The Ondo State Police Command on Saturday said it arrested a man, identified only as Sunday, in connection with the death of an 80-year-old woman in the state.

The octogenarian, whose identity had yet to be revealed as of the time of filing this report, was found dead on her farm in the Costain area of Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The deceased was said to have been declared missing a few days before her lifeless body was found on the farm.

Some residents alleged that the woman was raped to death due to the way her corpse was found on the farm.

A source said community youths picked up the suspect, who was a palm wine tapper, after finding the deceased’s telephone in his pocket and later handed him over to the police.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, I can confirm that the suspect is in our custody. He will soon be charged after the completion of investigation,” the PPRO stated.
