Police begin investigations over murder of Osun chief


Osun State Police Command says it has begun investigations to fish out the killers of a chief, Gbenga Okotore in the state.

Okotore was said to have been attacked near his residence in Ilesa community of the state, on Wednesday.

According to some residents of Okutu-Ope area of Ilesa where the deceased house is located, they said Okotore must have been trailed by his assailants.

They added that the perpetrators of the crime shot Okotore at close range near his house.

A resident of the area, who preferred anonymity, while speaking with our correspondent, said “We heard gunshots but we were all too scared to move. It happened around 8pm on Wednesday. He must have been trailed down.”

The police spokesperson in the state, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident while speaking with The PUNCH on Thursday.

She added that investigation had already commenced into the incident.

She said, “It is true. The deceased, Okotore was a chief, a community leader in the area. We have commenced work on the incident and those involved will not escape justice.”
